PEER Names New Public Relations and Outreach Director

Parshaw Vaziri has accepted the newly created position of Director of Public Relations and Outreach at PEER. The position was established to foster increased communication between PEER and its audience by increasing awareness of the following PEER activities and milestones: results from both the core and directed studies research programs, education program highlights, and collaboration with representatives of industry and government. Parshaw will work closely with the faculty, staff, and students of the different PEER institutions.

A 1992 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Parshaw comes to PEER from California Universities for Research in Earthquake Engineering (CUREe), where he was Associate Executive Director. Parshaw has also served in an adminstrative capacity in other departments of the university, including previous work with the Earthquake Engineering Research Center. His experience in the earthquake engineering community totals eight years.

Parshawís areas of experience are electronic and traditional publishing, graphic design, website development and management, conference and workshop management, publicity of events, development of seminars, and other outreach activities. The outreach and public relations office will direct content and design of the PEER website and new publicity materials, increase collaboration with PEERís Business and Industry Partnership, and plan the 2001 PEER Annual Meeting in January.
