GEER Report Now Available: January 9, 2010 Offshore Northern California Earthquake
Following the earthquake of January 9, 2010 offshore Northern California, near Eureka, researchers from numerous institutes and universities worked collaboratively as a GEER team to perform reconnaissance of geological, seismological, and geotechnical aspects of the earthquake effects. The results are summarized in a report recently published on the GEER web site at:
Topics discussed include earthquake description and ground motions; geologic and seismotectonic setting, observed landslides, liquefaction events, ground cracking, and a general discussion of seismic response of structures. Overall, minor occurrences of ground deformations were observed in the region.
Partial support of this effort was provided by the National Science Foundation.
