Istrati, Denis

PEER Annual Meeting 2020 Speaker Bio: Assistant Research Professor, UNR. Dr. Istrati is an assistant research professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. He earned civil engineering degrees from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and UNR. His research experience focuses on the seismic and tsunami performance of critical infrastructure using large-scale experimentation, advanced multi-physics modeling and numerical approaches optimized for high-performance computing clusters. He is interested in (a) understanding the fundamental physics of the fluid-structure-interaction during extreme coastal hazards, (b) developing simplified methodologies for the vulnerability assessment of critical structures and infrastructure networks to natural hazards and extreme flooding events, and (c) generating optimized mitigation strategies for single- and multi-hazard scenarios. https://www.unr.edu/cee/people/denis-istrati
