Damage Evaluation Modeling and Verification Using Ballistic Equipment

FE modeling of the LG panes, including blast loading and considered failure modes.

Objectives

The primary objective of this research is to show how the widely used Finite Element Analysis based commercial software, LS-DYNA and MIDAS, can emulate real impact phenomenon through experimentation. The digitized picture of an impacted object will be compared with the simulated results to compare the displacement, stress and fracture between the simulation and the experiment.

A further objective of this research is to obtain data of various materials and structures subjected to impact ( i.e., shot bullets and blasts) through simulation and experimentation. The materials will include glass, concrete, masonry and wood. To implement this demanding research, further study on the properties of a variety of materials and the impacts of blasts is necessary.
