Director’s Message: Bozorgnia Stepping Down from PEER

Mosalam imageDr. Yousef Bozorgnia recently announced that he will be stepping down from his position as PEER Executive Director. Yousef has served as Executive Director since 2009, and was Associate Director from 2004 to 2009. During his service in these capacities for over 12 years, he has had many accomplishments. To highlight a few of these successes, Yousef has effectively served as the Project Leader and co-PI for the development, widespread usage, and ground motion database inception and maintenance of the next generation attenuation (NGA) models, including NGA-West, NGA-East, and NGA-Subduction. He was instrumental in the PEER activities related to the development of Ground Motion Prediction Equations (GMPE) for the Global Earthquake Model (GEM). Moreover, Yousef served as the Program Manager of the PEER Tall Buildings Initiative (TBI).

Yousef’s contribution to PEER and its mission is extensive. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Yousef for his many years of service as a key person in PEER’s management team. As he has indicated to me, I am glad he will remain active as a Professor in Residence in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley and in several of the Center’s research projects.

PEER wishes Yousef success in his on-going and future endeavors.
