Gao Wins Awards at Annual Tsinghua Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) Retreat

Yuqing Gao, 3rd year Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, recently received Second Prize in the Best Poster Award at the student poster competition at the Annual Tsinghua Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) retreat held in June 2018.

Gao’s poster, “Structural ImageNet and PEER Hub ImageNet Challenge 2018”, highlights recent work conducted with Professor Khalid M. Mosalam in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, and is the basis of the PEER PHI Challenge. Gao’s research direction is combining machine learning and deep learning techniques with structural health monitoring.

In addition to the poster award, a student group led by Gao won the Best Creativity Award for their presentation “Enhanced Learning Armor” in the competition entitled “Incubation of Innovation in Interdisciplinary Research Applications.”
