NGA Panel Discussion at US Society of Dams Meeting, April 10, 2014

A half day workshop about NGA-West2 was held at the United States Society on Dams 2014 Annual Meeting and Conference on Thursday, April 10th, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. This workshop titled, “Next Generation Attenuation Relationships and the and the Estimation of Ground Motions for Dams,” was organized by the USSD Committee on Earthquakes. The workshop included a panel discussion that was planned by Ross Boulanger and included PEER panelists I.M. Idriss, Norm Abrahamson, Jon Stewart, and Yousef Bozorgnia. More information about the conference can be found at: http://www.ussdams.org/2014conf.html

EERI Technical Seminar on PEER NGA-West2 Project

A  one-day EERI technical seminar, with support from FEMA/Department of Homeland Security, focusing on the PEER NGA-West2 Project.

The seminar dates and locations are:

Thursday, November 7, in Salt Lake City;
Friday, November 8, in Long Beach;
Thursday, November 14, in Seattle; and
Friday, November 15, in San Francisco.

The seminar brochure PDF has details on the program, presenters, venues, and a link to a printable form to register by fax or mail, if preferred.

The PEER NGA-West2 project addresses important ground motion hazard issues including: Updating the popular database of the recorded ground motion, developing new ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs), scaling of response spectra for a wide range of damping values, directivity and directionality of ground motion, and new recommendations for soil amplification factors for building code applications. The project is coordinated by PEER and financially supported by the CEA, Caltrans, and PG&E.

Topics and presenters include an overview of NGA-West2 (Yousef Bozorgnia), the NGA-West2 Database (Tim Ancheta), 2014 U.S. National Seismic Hazard Maps (Mark Petersen), and the effects of updates on Building Design (Silvia Mazzoni).

The NGA-West2 findings and the impacts will be of interest to geotechnical, lifeline, and structural engineers; seismologists; engineering geologists; urban planners; insurance professionals; students; risk modelers; and the broader earthquake engineering community.

NGA-West2 Preliminary Results Workshop

The first public workshop for PEER’s NGA-West2 program will take place at UC Berkeley on November 15th.  This workshop will highlight and share the findings that have developed from the project team over the last 2 years, including the preliminary ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs), updated ground motion database, and results from other research tasks.  Researchers, practitioners, and any other interested parties are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Date: Thursday, November 15, 2012

Location: Auditorium in Room 310, Sutardja Dai Hall (CITRIS Building), University of California, Berkeley.
