PEER has published Report No. 2022/04: "The PEER International Pacific Rim Forum 2021: Regional-Scale Simulations of Earthquake Ground Motions and Infrastructure Response for Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering." The continued rapid advancements in High Performance Computing (HPC) hardware and supporting computational ecosystems, combined with new understanding of the underlying physics of earthquake processes, are providing the foundation for the simulation of earthquake ground motions and infrastructure response at regional scale. This latest in a series of Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) Pacific Rim Forums brought together a group of leading multidisciplinary experts from structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and the earth sciences to share recent research developments and state-of-the-art applications in regional-scale, fault-to-structure earthquake simulations. The overall objective of the Forum was to provide an opportunity for the research and practitioner communities to take stock of the current status of regional-scale simulations, to identify remaining challenges to achieving realistic and accurate simulations, and to provide an opportunity to discuss the appropriate pathway to begin bringing regional simulations into engineering practice. With a rich history of extensive contributions to the field of performance-based earthquake design, the research community of PEER is well positioned to help usher in the application of regional simulations for the risk assessments of infrastructure systems. This report summarizes the Forum technical sessions, documents the full suite of presentations, and in one location provides ready hyperlinks to on-line videos of each of the presentations at the Forum.
