USGS LogoThe USGS Earthquake Hazards Program (EHP) released its annual announcement for assistance to support research in earthquake hazards, the physics of earthquakes, earthquake occurrence, and earthquake safety policy.

Proposals are due May 22, 2018 This activity is authorized by the Earthquake Hazards Reduction Act of 1977.

French delegation imageA French delegation of 14 people visited PEER headquarters in Berkeley, California, on February 14, 2018, to learn about PEER activities and global seismic risk.  The California-based part of the delegation included Mr. Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens (French Consul General in San Francisco), Mr. Christophe Lemoine (French Consul General in Los Angeles) and their staff.

PEER, in collaboration with MTS‘s Lab Expert Seminar Series, held a two day workshop on March 20-21, 2018, focusing on a comprehensive exploration of hybrid simulation technologies and methods. The event was held at the UC Berkeley Richmond Field Station and had a great turnout with active participation of 45 attendees.

In 1971, the NISEE-PEER Library opened its doors at the Richmond Field Station and began its mission of serving the information needs of the earthquake engineering community. The NISEE-PEER Library houses a large, specialized physical collection of library materials in addition to the NISEE-PEER Online Archive.

BridgePBEE has been recently enhanced by incorporating robust plotting and visualization packages to make this user-interface more versatile and user-friendly. An overview was presented at the 2018 PEER Annual Meeting, Plenary 4 Session, “Performance-Based Engineering: Research”, in the presentation “Towards a Performance Assessment Calculation Tool (PACT) for Bridge Systems,” by UC San Diego Professor Ahmad Elgamal.

The 2018 NHERI REU program provides research opportunities at 10 hazard-engineering, simulation and cyberinfrastructure facilities around the country. Over the course of the summer, students work side-by-side with earthquake, wind, tsunami and coastal engineers, geoscientists, and data scientists – all dedicated to mitigating the effects of natural hazards.

The 2016 PEER Annual Meeting will be hosted at the International House at the UC Berkeley campus on Thursday January 28 and Friday January 29, 2016. “Decision-Making in the Face of Uncertainty” will feature the role of multi-disciplinary performance-based engineering with seismic and related natural hazards to achieve community resiliency.
